It is extremely important to do this through BDM. You need to read a 2.5 MB file and save the EEPROM. If you don't, you will get a "check vehicle" message on the dashboard. Do not attempt this with any tools via OBD.

Yes, you can use the tool, but you need to bench and backup both the MPC and EEPROM. If you crash one ECU, you will need to replace both ECUs and visit a VW dealer.

There's always a potential risk of bricking any ECU, regardless of the device, even with genuine programmers. This is why I advise newcomers to be cautious. Avoid start like crazy and test on customer car that need daily.

Regarding the power adapter, the original one provided should enough for most ECUs. However, if you encounter ECUs that demand higher voltages, like 13.5-14v, you'll need to use a different power source.
